Commensurate with Experience

MBYLL History and Mission:

With more than 15,000 members located throughout Eastern and Central Massachusetts, the MBYLL is a member and donor-driven 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. The MBYLL is a leader and model program for community youth lacrosse in the United States.  Founded more than 29 years ago, the MBYLL promotes, first and foremost, its Classic program, in which all players participate in games on evenly balanced teams, based on a player’s grade, age, skill, size, and experience.  Teams play a local game schedule against other town-based programs in their region. The MBYLL Classic program does not have "A" and "B" or "stacked" teams, nor standings and playoffs at any level. It is about development and learning to love the game.

The MBYLL Select League is a supplementary town-based playing opportunity that offers advanced players a more competitive level of play.  All Select program players must participate fully in the MBYLL Classic program and be in good standing with the Classic coach and league.  The Select league has division-based standings, playoffs, a championship, and All-Star games.

MBYLL coaches are trained and certified to be teachers of the game and role models, focused on player development, teamwork, and learning the fundamentals.  The MBYLL is open to all towns, cities, and certain geographical areas. We strive to always provide a safe, enjoyable learning experience for all participants in an environment not swept up in the pressure-filled, win-at-all-cost mania too common in youth sports.

MBYLL leadership, programs, players, coaches, and spectators are expected to demonstrate good sportsmanship and to honor the creator’s game, always.

The MBYLL also seeks to establish programs in towns and cities where lacrosse has not been played historically.  The MBYLL strives to make lacrosse accessible to all young men and women throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, through education, training, assistance, mentorship, and financial assistance.

Job Description:

The Executive Director reports to and serves at the discretion of the MBYLL Board of Directors. All actions taken by the Executive Director are in service of the MBYLL Mission and its nonprofit, service organization mandate. While the Executive Director must have latitude to direct and operationalize the day-to-day functions of the organization, maintaining good communication and relationships with MBYLL Board members is critical to the success of this position. Trust from the Board of MBYLL extended to the Executive Director, will allow for the flexibility to show leadership and independent decision making critical to a thriving, forward thinking, successful organization. The pursuit of organizational goals must consider both near and long-term strategic aims.

The Executive Director is responsible for the overall management and oversight of MBYLL operations. The position provides strategic and operational leadership for the organization and works with the professional management team to implement policies and directives, as well as develop and execute mission priorities.

The Executive Director will provide leadership to the MBYLL professional staff, oversee, and develop staff structure, assure the Board of Directors is well informed of strategies and challenges, and direct the organization’s financial function, including the development and oversight of the annual operations budget.
